Mano A Mano

“Our mission is to provide support and education about health, in all its dimensions, to empower people
and achieve positive changes which will strengthen the well-being of all communities.”

History of Mano A Mano

Mano A Mano started in 1993 as a bi-national effort to address the high-incidence of birth-defects in the area. The main focus of the project was to train lay health workers (promotoras) on health-related issues so that they in-turn could educate their communities.

Our Primary Goals

  • Educate and inform the community about all the dimensions of health to help assure that people will prevent disease or, with the help of their medical provider, can better manage their chronic conditions.

  • Provide social support to the community through home visits.

  • Help to break down barriers which prevent families from receiving the services needed to maintain good health.

  • Create an “education network” which will extend profoundly into the communities we serve.

Goals & Strategies

  • Train volunteer promotoras

  • Provide health education

  • Help to achieve positive change

  • Provide house to house education

  • Conduct home visits and presentations at schools, community centers, and low socio-economic communities.

Mano A Mano Programs

Expanding Our Reach (EOR)
A Project focused on the Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker population and their families. Our Mission is to reduce barriers to health care access with a long term goal of improving health care outcomes.

Marguerite Casey
In 2006, BCHC received funding from the Marguerite E. Casey Foundation which allowed us to continue our work with low-income families. Our goal is to establish programs which will improve the quality of life for these families in the following areas: Health Care, Housing, Education, Jobs, Immigration, and Civic Engagement.
