Healthy Start Program

1. Healthy Start Case Managers address multiple issues to improve the health and well being of women, infants, children and their families. Strategies include: providing adequate prenatal care; promoting positive prenatal health behaviors, identifying and developing community based systems, meeting basic health needs (nutrition, housing, psychosocial support);reducing barriers to access and enabling client empowerment.
2. Women of child bearing age and their children. With focus on high-risk pregnant women.
3. HSP is funded by the U.S. Health and Human Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau
4. No cost to the patient
5. Services available during Clinic Hours of operations; There are four Healthy Start sites in the valley serving five counties Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata.
6. Both Healthy Start Case Managers are Child Passenger Safety Technicians certified by the state of Texas to install car seats for people in the community.
